Tessa's Take

Hello Everyone, today, as you know, is a significant day in the history of not only the United States but also the world. As we look back and remember the events of 9/11 I ask that each of you remember how lucky we are to be here, and what is truly important. There are many events to commemorate that fateful day 10 years ago. In SL, Patrick Thorkveld and Liz Harley have put together an entire day of music at Key West. The event begins with a moment of prayer at 9:45 and goes on until 8pm sl time, followed by the haunting sounds of the bagpipe to finish the evening. Each performer is special and giving of their time and talent for this emotional tribute. I hope you enjoy the music as you sit back and remember those lost, and those who have survived to carry on. Many things have changed in these past 10 years, some good some bad, but one thing remains the same, the power to heal through music. Come and feel it with us at Key West Resort today. Tessa's Take

Hey Everyone! I was happily perusing my massively unkempt inventory when I was sent a tp. The request came from a good friend with a note that said..."OMG" So, of course, I took the tp. I landed at Two Moon Paradise as an Italian performer, Amleth Mccallen, was chatting on mic. The 2011 Meta Stock winner has a lovely accent, and his voice was vaguely familiar. I was anxious to hear him sing and WOW, I was not disappointed! He was awesome! A gentle manner and an excellent delivery of some beautiful songs. I am a fan of a few of the Italian songs he covered and I loved the English covers too!It was a pleasurable hour! I look forward to seeing more of this versatile performer and I hope you will too! Tessa's Take

It's a lazy Sunday afternoon, and I wanted something sweet to listen to...something to help me savor the end of the day...as I watched the sun begin to set. I looked in my notices...and saw a name that was new to me, NigelCPalmer. he was playing at Nudist Paradise...a lovely clothing optional venue with a reputation for great live music shows. I arrived to the beautiful voice of Nigel singing You Raise Me Up. He did an excellent rendition...a perfect moment to accomplish my aforementioned goal. I really enjoyed his sound...and was pleasantly surprised at his ability to switch genres smoothly...His voice melting the audience both clothed and not lol. I highly suggest you check him out...he's worth the time! Thank you for peeking at Tessa's Take....until next time...Tessa1 Beck

These two have dualed several times in the past and they just get better and better! The Blowers Daughter made you want to cry and the grand finale...American Pie, had everyone singing along. Tessa's Take

It's Friday! I haven't been out much this week, had some things to work through, but this evening I made a break for it and found myself at a Lou Mannock show. Lou has been around awhile, certainly not new, but his set still sounded fresh and fun! His song list is impressive and his voice equally so. I requested a favorite song which Lou sang to perfection....in English and Spanish no less! He was very sweet to talk to, the music was great and to add to it all...EVERY tip he makes this weekend is going to the RED CROSS charity for the victims of the recent tornadoes! So I say, if you do nothing else this weekend, catch a set with Lou! It will be fun, entertaining and all for a great cause! Thank you for peeking at Tessa's Take....until next time...Tessa1 Beck

Hey, Good Morning! It's a beautiful Monday morning here in SL!. I was quietly adjusting my prims when I saw a notice for the debut of a brand new musician. Now, you know I couldn't pass that up!I made my way to Guthries...one of the best venues for live music in SL and found it jam packed with avs anxious to hear a fresh new sound. We were all delighted by this new performer...who is he you ask...AdamHoek. He had a great sound, acoustic and live. He did some sweet covers and his originals were fun, his emotions clearly showing through at just the right times. It was an enjoyable hour and I know you will be hearing his name a lot more soon! I look forward to catching another set from Adam soon, maybe I'll see you there! Check out the comments for a link to Adams page! Happy Tuesday! I have been mentioning some exciting happenings for the month of April...and now, I have a promo for one of them...read on M.U.S.I.C. !! OUR EVENT IS ABOUT COMMUNITY AND LETTING THE 75% OF SL THAT HASN'T HEARD LIVE MUSIC GET INVOLVED.

So "MUSICIANS" and "MUSIC AFFILIATES" -NOW is the time to talk it up at your concerts, to invite one person who has never heard live music in SL .. to spread the word and make this event about awareness! Lots of PR going out , but there is nothing like word of mouth and announcements at your gigs to challenge everyone to bring a new listener, participant to our community. It benefits all!
There you have it, now go out and do it!!! Hugs!

Hey Everyone!!! Tonight was another awesome edition of....THE AUDIO UNION!!! We had a great lineup tonight starting with Nikita Mortenwold! She is a lovely girl from the UK with an awesome accent and an even better singing voice! She did covers from several genres and ended with a personal favorite of mine from Pink! I loved her set and look forward to catching a show soon! She was followed by my good friend and amazing SL/RL performer...Porter Paquot! I have mentioned her before...she always delivers a great set full of fun, and vocals that could blow your mind! Sorry, but 15 minutes is just never enough of Porter! Following Miss Paquot a brand spanking new musician took the SL stage! His name is Joel Eilde also known as Dragonfly... His set started dark and he blew up the stream with his hard rock and killer voice! I was ready to hit the dance floor and make it my own...seriously, it was a great new sound to hit SL! I am totally looking forward to a full set and so should you! We waved goodbye to Joel and welcomed another SL favorite of mine, Stratus Mactavish. His strong acoustic skills and sweet voice filled TAU with the sounds of Jason Mraz and the like...he guided us into a sweet and sexy mood, perfect for an SL night of romance....ahem...Finally we met the last performer of the evening, LoneWolf55 Genesis. I don't know about you, but I have been seeing his name all over the grid lately! He gave us his own style of music, doing some old time faves and some new ones with a twist thats all his own! the night rocked, we had a great turn out! Check these fab people out! Let me know what ya think!!! Thank you for peeking at Tessa's Take....until next time...Tessa1 Beck

He does some really cool originals and totally awesome covers! He has a unique sound, and I thoroughly enjoyed them all! I have to say this is one performer you don't want to miss! It's Tuesday night and I was summoned to Snug Harbor Island to hear DirtyDee Sweetwater. I have heard him before, don't let his name fool you, he plays acoustic guitar and sings some great ballads and love songs! The crowd was as interactive as they come, teasing and egging him on, and he never missed a beat! He was quick witted and fun! He has been around SL for quite awhile, but I always suggest if you haven't heard someone in some time, get yourself out there and give them a second listen. You just never know when you are going to be surprised! I really enjoyed DD's performance and hope to catch another set soon, maybe I will see ya there! Tessa's Take

Hi SL Music Lovers! We had a great session of TAU tonight! First up, BGSinger Hermit. He did a great rendition of Pretty Woman followed by some cool covers that showed his versatility perfectly! We all enjoyed his set and look forward to catching him again soon. Our next performer was unfortunately unable to make it, but luckily, Chris Evermore was in the audience and more than happy to step in for us! He was awesome, as usual, providing us with 15 minutes of pure aural pleasure! A special thank you to Chris for that last minute rescue! Following Chris, Rapture Damone took the stage and dare I say with force! She sang some of my favorite songs and the audience just couldn't get enough of her! I plan to catch a full set of hers very, very soon! Bosco Constantine was waiting in the wings for his set and wow, all I can say is...what a fun show he puts on! He steers clear of the usual covers and provides a unique and entertaining experience for all! It was a shame he only had 15 minutes, but that just means we will have to seek him out to catch a full set! Last on the roster, Zerbie Magic. I have had the pleasure of hearing her before and it is ALWAYS a treat. I am particularly fond of her originals. Her smoky voice filled the TAU stage and made a perfect ending to a really wonderful Audio Union! Thank you for peeking at Tessa's Take....until next time...Tessa1 Beck

Hey, it's time for another new musician alert! I again found myself at The Dirty Martini, Venus Panthar's place to hear Al Velvetleaf. He is a really great guitarist with a sound akin to Journey. My friend and I enjoyed the tunes and the great atmosphere! Al is still tweaking his sound, but he definitely is on the rise...I won't be surprised if he isn't the next new thing if ya know what I mean! He has a smooth voice and some killer talent on the strings, so check him out! See ya there! Thank you for peeking at Tessa's Take....until next time...Tessa1 Beck

Hi Everyone! I know it's been awhile, you know how it is...SL has a way of wreaking havoc with our emotions and mine seem to be the favorite lately. I am finally back to searching for new and interesting music in SL and today I came across Mica Breen. He isn't exactly new...but new to me :-). I caught his set at The Dirty Martini, Venus Panthar's place. Awesome venue, very friendly and great atmosphere...and I am so glad I made it there! Mica is a Georgia boy living in Texas, a real country boy! He does a variety of country songs, some originals too! It was a great time, the crowd had fun and the chat was really cute! One suggestion...don't mention chocolate during his sets unless you want to hear him moaning a bit...on second thought....CHOCOLATE! Hey, remember I was telling you about some cool upcoming events? Here is an update from Patrick Thorkveld about one of those awesome happenings!
"We are putting together a complete program (MUSIC) to showcase the live music community in SL and to allow the reported ( in LL survey) 75% of SL who is not aware of live music to have a chance to participate at some of our most beautiful and reputable locations. To date we have about 100 of our best musicians including many who sing only originals. We will broadcast those live through Indie Radio in here - this goes out then to about 70 stations - as i understand it - out through Nashville. We will also have Metaverse TV ( no relation to Metaverse Music or any other Metaverse group) which is one of SL s most reputable television production groups , filming intermittantly throughout all days. This event will cover April 22- 25 and includes Rockcliff University , Catatsrophic Planning and Management Institute , Metaverse TV , Calas Galadon, Moonacy, Aero Pines , RFYR among its sponsors. We will have a website to showcase our developments and are working with Winamp executives to perhaps leverage some other RL applications. There will be RL scouts and producers who will be listening and wandering thru and we will also have a forum led by Lou Tones (RL Music Producer and LL affliliate) with agroup to discuss trends and practices and developments in Live Musi c in SL and other virtual arenas. This is a serious and broad event which seeks to promote the idea of "community " thru music .

It's Wednesday, Hump Day if you will...and I found myself at The Roof @ NYC and Studio Markus Galleries. I came to hear Gavin Zane, a wonderful newish SL performer with a style all his own. The show was great...the audience thrilled with his awesome sound and fun banter. Following Gavin was AcousticEnergy Nitely...one of the absolute coolest performers of SL. He always gives a great performance...his sexy voice could melt butter and not just when he sings! The best part was the scenery here @ The Roof...not just many of my SL friends but also some of the best SL art. I found myself camming around to check out the works below us while listening. So, if you are looking for some great music, or maybe want to check out what the SL art scene is all about, take a peek in NYC at the Studio Markus Galleries and The Roof too! Loegan Magic's SL Music Message

Hi Everyone! This is a blog post done by Loegan Magic. I am reposting it here because I believe in his message.

My venue was recently approached to join a group for venue owners called Live Music Review. I would encourage the SL music community to NOT join this group. They have set down guidelines for what they feel is a quality venue. After a heated discussion with one of the groups founders, I was still unable to determine what the purpose of the group was – needless to say he no longer wanted my venues in the group (which is fine by me).

One of the standards of what makes a venue, “high quality” according to the group is “no karaoke acts." I own two live music venues with Porter Paquot; The Mill and Kasbah. We do not book karaoke acts, we book high quality vocalists who use tracks, live musicians, and DJ’s. We have original music night and do our best to support the live music scene and art community in Second Life. I have worked for almost two years trying to bring people together and book quality music at my venues. I feel that my venues can stand on the reputations they have made for themselves over the last year and half. In my opinion, reputation is what a makes a good venue not an arbitrary checklist. It frustrates and angers me when someone makes blanket statements like this group is doing. If a venue does not want to book vocalists who use tracks, that is their choice, It DOES NOT make them a higher quality venue. This attitude is what is wrong with an otherwise amazing second life music scene.

It is time to put a stop to this. This is a debate among musicians, managers, and venue owners. The fans don’t care they just want to hear good music. Let’s stop creating divisions and work together. If we as venue owners just book the best people out there and run our venues the way we want, then the people going to the shows will decide who runs a quality venue and who doesn’t. It’s simple. Groups like this that see things as black and white are what is wrong with the Second Life music scene. I also encourage musicians to not support venues with this attitude. This debate is getting old.

This is a hot button issue with me and it's about time that we as a community STOP making divisions and work together. Good music is good music.

I hope everyone can appreciate the talent of each person, and not discriminate against those who chose to hone their God given ability. There is room for every kind of performer in SL.. Thank you for peeking at Tessa's Take....until next time...Tessa1 Beck
